Long Weekend Winery Getaway - Barossa Valley South Australia

Adelaide Wine Region
(Napa Valley of Australia)
Adelaide is the wine capital of Australia, famous for Barossa Valley. But when we started planning our trip we realized there are a other beautiful locales to be explored (Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and Handhorf). When I was googling things to do, everything was showing up separately, so i decided to do this post about all the things you can go in Adelaide and how to manage your time. I am sure I must have missed out on a lot of things, but never the less here is it
Time of visit: June which is the start of winter or end of autumn in Australia. Perfect weather to visit.
No. of days- 3 nights & 4 days Sat to Tues

Tip: Adelaide traffic is quite slow, if you live in the city you will need at least 1-2 hours to get to the wineries. Speed limits are around 80 kms, and there was a lot of road work when we visited, so it took us longer to get to places. Start your days as early as possible, so you get enough time at each winery. Also all wineries close around 4.30, so you will need to plan your evenings as well. It does get dark at 5.00 in winters.

Day 1: Saturday
We landed mid day and it was a lovely winter afternoon. Picked up our SUV from the airport and decided to check in first. We were booked at the Sebel in the city. Its a nice location, with the happening Hindley street right behind the hotel. Since we had a few hours before all the wineries close and check-in didn't take long, we decided to visit Jacobs Creek Information Center. Its in  the Barossa valley. Absolutely worth a visit, not the best staff/service in my opinion, but huge vineyard, really good wines and
ambiance.
We lounged on bean bags, sipped some coffee (it was alright), bought some organic wine and of course did wine tasting.
On the way back we stopped at the Moorooroopark winerytook some photos and headed back into town.
Dinner was at Chapati House 2 as we were starving and only curry would do :). We found it on Urban Spoon and it had good rating. Food was good, but I have had better and it had too much artificial color.
Tips:
Wine tasting is free.Try not going during peak hours as it will be crowded. Lot of space to explore, kids games available. Bundle up as it can get chilly. Arrive at least an hour before the kitchen closes, to enjoy some cheese platters

Outfit:
I planned my travel outfit in such a way that I could carry on for the evening in it.
Black tights/leggings -SES
Waterfall cardigan top - SES
Disco ball long necklace- Colette
Disco ball earrings- Pierre Cardin
Brown leather boots- Hush Puppies
Handbag- Fossil
Watch - Rado
Day 2: Sunday
It was the McLaren Vale wine festival, so we decided  to explore this region today. Breakfast was at a a gourmet chocolate cafe and it was delicious (Bracegirdles House of Fine Chocolate). We had the special waffles, eggs and pancakes, followed by some strong cappuccinos. It was a good find and I would totally recommend it.While we were feasting we made a plan for the day and picked 5 wineries to visit. We had some brochures and I had done some prior research online, so it was easy to pick. Once in McLaren Vale all the wineries are very close.

Wineries visited today:
Top favourite- dArenberg Winery- (Absolutely amazing reds, one of my new favorites.)
Outfit:
Skinny Jeans - Vero Moda
Pink long sleeve top- Big W
Brown leather boots- Hush Puppies
Handbag- Fossil
Watch - Rado
Dinner was at a restaurant called Taste of Bollywood. Food was brilliant, and it was in the higher $$ range, but totally worth it.
We had planned to eat at Jasmin & British Raj, as they are very popular, but the prices were high and our timings didn't match the restaurant closing time. We like to eat late, so we picked the best of the town that were open till late.
Sheesha

Late Night:
To enjoy a night cap, do check out Hindley street. It was a minute's walk from the Sebel, and we absolutely loved it. The place has got a great vibe, music is loud and food is delicious. We sat down for some Sheesha, baklava and Turkish coffee. What more can one ask for!! :) It was like all these people who are no where to be seen during the day, come out of their abodes and bring a party with them. Adelaide is a very relaxed, retirement town (in my opinion), but Hindley street showed me a whole different side of this beautiful South Australian city.
 Day 3:
Today we decided to explore the good old Barossa Valley. It is everything you want in a wine region. Tonnes of wineries, big and small, huge hectares of vineyards and some really classy wine centers. So we picked our top 5 again and went with it. First stop was Maggie Beers Farm. And boy oh boy, it is a little paradise on earth!
Greeted by a peacock at Maggie Beers Farm

People who live there live a fairy tale life everyday. You sit by the lake side cafe, which is set out with picnic tables, food is served in lovely wicker baskets, the staff is dressed in aprons and look like they are straight out of a fairy tale.
You can order a coffee and cake, sweetmeats, ice-creams or a picnic basket with a glass of wine or cider.
Breakfast was at Maggie Beers Farm

Outfit:
White long sleeve top- Big W
Brown leather boots- Hush Puppies
Handbag- Fossil
Watch - Rado

Wineries visited today:
Penfolds- we visited both the Barossa and Magill  Estates

Day 4:
This was probably the best part of the trip and very unexpected. A German town called Handhorf. It is such a serene & pristine town, with the best cafes, food and boutique shopping stores.
We went to this amazing winery, with a very unique tasting experience of ChocVino which is chocolate & wine. If you ever visit Handhorf, do visit this place. The staff was so polite & informative. You sit at a table over looking the vineyard, and can select from their carefully paired range of wine & chocolates. Artisanal chocolates paired with the locally grown wine. They also offered us the most pure spring water, which also acts as a palette cleanser.

The town of Handhorf has some of the cutest shops, selling the most amazing souvenirs. You can stop by and have an ice cream or just go to a local bakery for some dessert, coffee and pie.

Outfit:

Pink Sweatshirt- Abercrombie & Fitch
Boot leg Jeans- Abercrombie & Fitch
Brown leather boots- Hush Puppies
Handbag- Fossil
Long necklace- Colette
Watch - Rado
It was a morning well spent and I am so glad we kept it for the last day, since we only had the morning and this wasn't too far from the city, so getting back to the airport was very convenient.
Quirk art work at Handhorf

Hope this gives you some idea about things to do in Adelaide & also how to pack for a long weekend.
Cheers!!

H&M finally opened in my town

H&M
So we got our first H&M store in March this year, its probably the fourth store, the first three opened last year in Sydney & Melbourne.
They have kept the price range fairly reasonable (as per Australian standards, still expensive compared to its USA prices). But I am not complaining, i am very happy about it and finally able to buy some cute stuff at affordable prices.  I have already been there 3-4 times and picked up a few  things. Yes I did go on the first day when there was a line to get it...what can I say I miss my USA brands :(
The most recent trip was kind off impromptu. I went after work on Thursday, which is late night shopping day. I wanted to buy a jumper that I was eyeing online for a few weeks now. My plan was to go in get the sweater and walk out. But alas, that has never and probably will never happen. (LOL). As I was walking towards the shops, I stepped into Supre which was having some ridiculous 70%  off, so it was a much longer trip than I had planned :)
So I did pick up my Unicorn light pink sweater. I was over the moon when I saw it online, as its everything I love #Pink, #Unicorn, #Magical and sooooo #Girlie!! I used to have a my little pony bag and a few of the ponies and their combs as a kid. My dad spoilt us and we had the most exclusive toys, which were hard to find back in the day and were quite expensive. I also had a few outfits for the ponies. So when I saw this sweater online I had to buy it!! I also bought a soft scarf as it was deal of the day at H&M and a plain dusty pink top for everyday wear.
On a different trip I picked up a pair of fuzzy socks, animal pring nightie, which is super soft, some lace strap camis, striped top with gold buttons on the sleeves and shoulder and a black button down shirt as it is a wardrobe staple and I needed a new one. I also want to pick up a few other colors, white and blue stripes, but they were out of stock.

Price:
Sweater: $28
Scarf: $5
Top: $9.99
Shirt: $19.99
Socks: $14
Jeans: $10
Nightie: $19.99
Stripe top: $19.99
Lace tops- $9.00 each

Winter Shopping

Its starting to get cooler down under. I love winters and everything about it...winter clothes, food and drinks. So by now you might have guessed I dont need a reason to shop and I always shop for a reason..lol. These items were purchased on various occasions in preparation of the cold weather. So listing a few of my favorite brands and closet essentials.

Vero Moda
I always buy my jeans from Vero Moda. Actually lately I have been buying most of the things from this brand. Their jeans just fit me so well, I am a size 30 or 31 and their skinnies fit me perfectly.
I was not well earlier this year and this purchase was a back to home gift to myself. I seriously needed some retail therapy.. ;) and also needed a pair of black jeans.
Oh and liked the pink top so got that one too. You can wear it off shoulder or just like a normal top. I had been eyeing it for a very long time on the website, and when I was buying my jeans, it was almost 70% less and they had it in my size (L), so added it to the basket as well. I could have gone with a M, but I like these tops to be loose, this way you can dress them up or down.
The blue jeans and top were purchased separately and I think it was also a reward for something, as I had had a rough week and this made me happy. :) Except the white jumper, all the other items are awesome. I should have sized up with this jumper or looked around some more before getting this. I love white/grey loose fit sweaters/sweatshirts to throw over a pair of jeans or leggings with some boots during winter.
Price:
Black Jeans- $31 down from $55
Pink Jumper- $18.50 down from $32
Blue jeans- $39 down from $55
White Jumper- $24

We were out shopping for Mr N and I tried this on while waiting for him to finish. He saw it and said you need to get it, so I did. :)
When we went to pay it was down to almost 70% of retail price. It was my lucky day I must say. Its a stylish, comfy and very rich feeling sweater dress/top. I wore this one on his birthday last month and it looks really good.
Price: $12 down from $99
We got our first Top Shop last year in my town. I was planning on checking it out but never dared to go in , as I always thought its way over priced (well everything is over priced here in Australia :/ ).
So when they had a 50% sale I peeked in. The sale was incredible, but since I wasnt planning on buying anything I didnt get too many things, except this winter dress. After I came home I realised it was maternity wear.. LOL...but it fits well and was only $20.
Also picked up a pair of pink over the booties socks with a lace frill. Have been wanting a pair of these for a long time, but wasn't sure if I would be able to carry them. So when these were for only $3, I thought i would give it a try. I haven't worn them yet, but will post a pick on how I style them, once the weather gets cooler.
Price:
Dress: $20 down from $119
Socks: $3

So that was my winter shopping over the last 3-4 months. As you can tell I only shop deals and never pay or like to pay full price, unless I know something is worth that price or I really like it. Now only if the mercury can drop a little bit more so I can break into these clothes.

Hope you are enjoying and having good weather where ever you are!

Cheers

Beach Holiday Shopping

I did some shopping recently and thought I would share the deals. The inspiration behind this shopping spree is a beach vacation planned in July. I also got a few random things as the deals were too irresistible.

SES
I only got these pants. Super comfy and trendy. Will pair them with a plain white, pink or lime green top.
Price: $9.80
Tommy Bahama
I needed a swimming top and got an awesome deal on these bathers. $25 down from $80

Jacqui.E
Another favorite store of mine, its exclusive to Australia, but I like their stuff, especially their dresses. I was looking for white skirt or dress and found this one, which is perfect. Knee length with lace detailing on the trim. Would be perfect to wear all day shopping in the markets, sipping some cool drink.
Price: $19.99
Supre
This is what I ended up getting at Supre, I must have tried 20 outfits, but since I was out of time I just picked these few things that fit perfectly.
 Price:
Animal print dress: $10 down from $39
Kimono: $5 down from $25
Top: $5 down from $30
Fossil
This bag is totally inspired by my beach vacation. I love bags, so there is never a reason for buying one. I collect hand bags and love to switch them with different outfits.
This is a light mint green colored leather shoulder bag, with removable straps so you can wear it as a cross body. I thought this would be a perfect bag to take on the plane and later use the straps and wear it as a cross body while sight seeing or shopping.

I needed a new iPad cover and I always and only buy these from Fossil. So got a new one, they are very sturdy, look good, protect the iPad well and are leather so you cant go wrong.
Price:
Bag: $90 down from $200
iPad Cover: $10 down from $30
Peter Alexander
This is Australian version of Victoria's Secrets I believe. Love thier stuff, super soft very cute, pink and yes extremely over priced. Their logo is a dog, kind of inspired (I am guessing) by the VS Pink logo. Anyways I have started liking their stuff and picked up a bralet to wear under the summer dresses, as I don't like my bra hooks showing through the back. I will wear pads with this, as its not padded.
Price: $13 down from $30

If you would like to see how I paired and what I packed on my vacation let me know in the comments below. I will try to do a post on it.
Hope you get some tips and ideas or inspiration to shop and find some good deals, after reading my post.
If you are going on a vacation please let me know where and what you pack.
Cheers
